Otters - and why you should like them

- Appearance -

Eurasian Otter in a tree.

Pictured is a Eurasian Otter, who normally aren't in trees.

Cute

Otters are very cute, look up pictures of otters online right now before trying to disagree.

Furry

Otters are very furry (the sea otter is actually the most furry animal on earth), which makes them look soft which is nice.

Long

They are categorically a long animal, which is a good thing.

Whiskers

I like their whiskers.

Paws

Paws very a bit between species, but are always webbed for swimmming. The Small-Clawed Asian Otter has small claws (and is an otter that is asian in some way), which means their claws are a lot like our nails. They are also quite dexterous, and used for holding things.

- Babies -

Adolescent Small-Clawed Asian Otter.

Pictured is an adolescent Small-Clawed Asian Otter, the smallest of the otter species. Notice the short-hair coat and cute face.

Self Explanatory

But just in case it isn't; They're very cute. Also, despite relying on swimming for their entire adult lives, they are not born with the ability to do so (even baby Sea Otters, but at least they float). Baby otters will be brought into water by their parents, forcing them to swim, which makes them very grumpy.

- Behaviour -

Sea Otter.

Pictured is a Sea Otter. Notice the white and distinctive face, and broad torso.

Water

"...every drop of water must be, so to speak, extended and spread about the place; a bowl must be at once overturned, or, if it will not be overturned, be sat in and sploshed in until it overflows. Water must be kept on the move and made to do things; when static it is as wasted and provoking as buried talent." wrote author Gavin Maxwell. He was exactly correct.

Play

"The otter is the most joyous of all wild creatures, and its antics are beyond compare." wrote Henry Williamson, correctly.

Personality

Otters can be very characterful, with varied and unique personalities. This is probably because they are very intelligent and also the best.

- Presence -

Pictured is a Eurasian Otter, notice the long snout and long torso.

Rarity

Be honest, how often do you hear about or see otters? Probably not often, if at all. In fact the more you look for otters, the more striking their absence becomes; try it for yourself.

Water

The origin of the word Otter literally means 'Of Water'. Fish are 'of water', meaning they come from and belong in water. Ice is 'of water' because it is made of water. Otters are 'of water' for both reasons.
